Your PG made only 2 shots of the 16 he attempted, your team only made 26 of 80 shots (32.5%). I am not sure how either of you set how each player will play defense, but your opponent's player ratings were much higher than yours. Mostly, I think it was your team's horrible shooting that night that caused that result to happen.

Outside box and one didn't help against an inside offense, and it definitely didn't help, just looking at your point guards, that his was clearly much better than yours. Playing a slowed down offense against a better team, especially with a weakness at the PG that significant, also didn't help, seeing as PG is normally captain of the offense. I'll also point out the six extra turnovers, which make a huge difference.

At every position, your opponent was projected to have more points per 100 shots than your team. If you lose at all five positions, the odds are good that you will lose the game and not very close.

You don't have the team skills to play that defense effectively yet also I doubt the player exp. Its best to make it a offensive war ,rather try to contain the foe with defense,if your not certian in what measure to take ,play the offensive card .If you have some good shooters. Let them go off play paitent or push the ball and 3-2 zone/ man-man. 3--2 zone is a good starter defense and easier to master than man to man. Because you don't need all the match up skills.

Never gamble on the defensive side unless you know ,you attain a defensive edge somehow. Its not a big sin to give up 100pts and you score 101 :).. Always use the free throw line to your advantage. If your sure its a lost game, then let your shooter's go down shooting. Don't try the defensive way ,you'll lose because you lack it.

There some things you can do to keep a game close versus a better team.

I can understand that Man to Man is the safest and most reliable defense, but to say that it is very important to use all the time, is not correct in my opinion. There are many situations where 2-3 or 3-2 can also be effective and possible box defenses as well in certain cases, but I do not have much experience with those. I think the only defenses I would say to almost always avoid (or 95%+ of the time) is FCP and 1-3-1. You are entitled to your opinion though.
