Yes you're right! I've also learned a lot of new things.
Maybe next season it would be a more balanced competition. For the moment it seems we could have a better outside lineup, but a worse inside one.

I would like to ask you all a question: I saw lot of GMs that has been training 1on1 consitently, and try to reach a really high level of Penetration. But why don't they balance it with JS (/JR)?
I honestly prefer a higher level of JS rather than Penetration, expecially if I have to go with an outside offense. Am I wrong to think in this way?

You're not wrong. One of the big problems for me is that one on one is always the training that will most increase your player's overall skill level and therefore its easier to just train that than think about developing a well rounded player. This is both a problem with the training in the game and our perceptions of what's best.

There's also a school of thought on your side, but slightly more extreme, that the best combination of training would be one on one with jump range rather than jump shot. I'm not personally aware of the effectiveness of this but I can see the appeal. Especially on a player where JS is higher than JR.

Yes you're right, I didn't realize that 1on1 it is the training with most skills improvent. But however I don't like players with 18+ in driving and only 12 in JS, for example.
I give a point to that school of thought eheh I like having high level of JR (but more JS), but also you need passing to have great shooter, I think just like in the reality :)

I agree with you. I don't really like a lot of driving either, especially in comparison to JS and IS. High driving and low inside scoring is a complete waste. And certainly my current trainees, which are of course all over 21, could use more JS.

I think at u21 level probably the biggest problem is players with DR and HA and very little else. They're not of much use no matter how much TSP they have.

Also I agree with the need for passing. Every player needs at least some, even the big men. I just always tend to put passing off till last.

I have my own theories which I believe prove fairly solid, but they won't make it onto a public forum. PM if you have any specific training questions ;)

Tough final game

Not optimistic on this one, with Corral down injured we are going to struggle against a strong team. It's been a good run so far this season, I doubt I'll be running for next season as I'm struggling to prioritise sufficient time for the NT at the moment. That said, I've enjoyed my NT coach run and look forward to supporting whoever runs for next season. I'm giving you all a heads up so you can think about it.

Whoever wins would have my full support and full answers to any questions or any advise they need.

To punch above our weight, and by that I mean beat bigger countries consistently, we need two things. One, a good coach, and two, good defensive bigs which allow us to have flexibility on defence. We've only had one of those things.

We've often had good guards but even when I was NT coach some time ago, our bigs were not as good as I would have liked. And sorry Vecx, I include Innes in that, because I believe he was far better offensively, than he was as a defender. Frankly I've had better defenders playing for Durham than I've seen on our NT.

I'm tempted to run in the next election, though personally I'm against EBBL managers doing that, and if I do so it will be on the basis that I will encourage/badger/downright annoy people to train bigs as I would like.

Agreed, however I’ve changed my mind on the EBBL for one exception, if they are a great coach, they should be able to run.

That's nice of you but I'm going to rule myself out. I've had too many weeks where I've forgotten to set the best line up for my Utopia team to try and manage a third group of players.
Also, I have too many NT fringe players to take over the NT without creating a selection controversy.
As well as the two great EBBL managers/legends of awesomeness, we also have some very good ones that have won one or two trophies and could put in a shift as NT boss.
;-)

Ha, funnily enough I was thinking about the NT earlier today as well. On the basis of considering running and thinking of messaging Vecx about the current state of our bigs. Based on Corral being on the market recently / the general lack of defensive stats they put up in games I'm not sure I'd enjoy the lack of flexibility either. I guess we're both defensive coaches to some extent. I certainly am in that the first thing I do tactically is working out how to try to stop the best opposition players...

On the other hand, I've not experimented enough in going the other way. I don't know how far a team can go with enough offense...This season looked a pretty decent run NTwise in general.

It may just be me not paying enough attention but I'm not sure how much manager talent in England there is outside of the EBBL at the moment. Related to the general low level of forum engagement (I've stopped posting as much as well tbh). Does anyone even head into the livechat on game days anymore? I might've chatted to Baks one this season and 1 other person but I think most of us have abandoned there too. Maybe we'll get an outside candidate and actually get behind their campaign though! We'll find out soon enough I suppose.
