I thought having a thread like this would help me as well as the many other new players. To the BB veterans, what is the one thing you wish you had known when you first started that you ended up finding out (possibly the hard way) as you played the game more and more?

I wish I knew messing around on the Transfer List will likely lose you money in the end. Suggested prices can vary wildly from one week to the next so you may think you got a good deal one week and then watch as your players TL value decreases for the rest of the season.

I wish I knew that it only made sense to upgrade your players from the TL when you have a chance to promote to the next level. If you don't think your team is ready to survive in the next division then just focus on training your players and building your arena.

I wish I had started in DV

I wish I had focused more on training my drafted players instead of finding slightly better players on the Transfer List, since now my mechandising income is crap.

I wish i knew how to train players at first, hurts thinking of all the wasted time on 23yo 4k guards, attempting to jump shot train a center with atrocious JS and JR(who i bought because they had MVP potential, even though they were 21), trying to train a PG and a PF at the same time(wasting some of both their potential), buying a PG to train because i had just sold a trainee, realized he wasn't worth training and sell him for less than half what i payed and more noobish stuff like that....and probably more mistakes i will make and face palm to in the future......that's a little more than one thing, but hard to choose between so many mistakes

I wish I had learned that defense was the most important aspect of the game. Defense determines the outcome, offense determines by how much. I had a player a few seasons back (I was in league V) who had sensational Jump Shot (good right?) however his defense was inept and even though he averaged over 20 points a game his man on defense scored more than him therefore he was playing outplayed at his position. Which is why I had to cut him loose because I realized that if I kept him I would keep not promoting (took me 4 seasons to promote). And I thought offense was more important and I now know it's not which is why I finally promoted. Hope this Helps!

+1!

I wish I knew that high potential didn't mean faster training!
I wish I knew that high potential after the age of 25 didn't make a difference!

I wish I knew that my US BB pals would grumble about me getting more moneys because I have less users in my country! (I'd have started an account when I visited australia lol :P :P )

Day one: surprisingly - season is starting the same day and first game is in 2 hours!
1. Of course I put crunch time attitude to start the season in fashion - loosing the first game and valuable enthusiasm. I selected team for game1 ranked by DMI.
2. After the game I start selling the most expensive players to save the money not knowing they are the most valuable.
3. I started bidding the players attracted by DMI which was affordable with my budget (DMI in the range 5000-10000?!) which was totally irrelevant.
4. After few hours and messing up my team I started to read the manual!
5. First season I split my training in three parts: outside, inside and SF - nobody of course built the carrier.

Now I am in division2 and I still have one player from my first season as lucky charm...
